余霭芹

余霭芹教授，广东台山人。大学毕业于香港大学。其后在美国德萨斯大学获取硕士学位。于1966年在美国俄亥俄州立大学获取语言学博士学位。1968年至1978年间，历任美国普林斯顿大学、日本东京亚非言语文化研究所、加州大学柏克莱大学研究院研究员。1978年至1980年间，任教加州波梦那（Pomona）大学。1980年迄今任教于西雅图华盛顿大学亚洲语言文学系。余教授研究领域广泛，计有方言中的语法和语音、古代语法和现代语法、吴语、北方话等三十多种汉语方言，以及壮语、藏缅语等。曾于1999-2000年度任国际中国语言学会会长。现为台湾中央研究院语言学研究所筹备处学术谘询委员之一。
